Kyle is 16 months old now and he went to Bright Horizons for 1/2 a day on Monday and was there for full days the rest of the week. He cries when I leave and it's very hard. The best is for me to say bye, hand him over to the teacher and hurry out of Homebase B (his classroom name). The first day or two, his appetite wasn't great, but it got better. The only thing now is that his voice is raspy and he's clinging to me like crazy. I'm sore from carrying him everywhere. He has a hard time going to bed too. I'm not sure if he's overtired. Maybe..he did go to bed at 8pm instead of the usual 9ish. I hope he adjusts better. I feel like pulling him out of daycare and staying home with him! It is good that Cameron is in the same daycare as him and they hug each other when they see each outside in the playground. The teacher told me that the other day, Kyle was banging on the glass door to Cameron's room and crying to be let in! Poor Kyle.

My diagnosis - Shingles
On March 29, 2007 I was feeling itchy on my left collarbone area and thought nothing of it. Then after lunch, I was feeling itchy on my left shoulder. I thought back to what I ate, but I didn't eat anything which I didn't eat before. I made an appointment to see my primary care physician and tried to hold off on itching :(
At the doctor's office, it was diagnosed that I had shingles.
From the wiki encyclopedia:
Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus (one of the Herpesviridae group), leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome.
Signs and symptoms
The earliest symptoms of shingles include headache, sensitivity to light, flu-like symptoms without fever, as well as itching, tingling, and extreme pain where the rash is developing. Often, pain is the first symptom. This pain can be characterized as stinging, tingling, numbing, or throbbing, and can be pronounced with quick stabs of intensity. Then 1-3 crops of red lesions develop, which gradually turn into small blisters filled with serous fluid. A general feeling of unwellness often occurs. In some cases, the rash does not form blisters, but has an appearance much like urticaria ("hives").
Shingles cannot be passed from one person to another. However, the virus that causes shingles, VZV, can be spread from a person with active shingles to a person who has never had chickenpox through direct contact with the rash. The person exposed would then develop chickenpox, not shingles. The virus is not spread through sneezing, coughing or casual contact. A person with shingles can spread the disease when the rash is in the blister-phase. Once the rash has developed crusts, the person is no longer contagious. A person is not infectious before blisters appear or with post-herpetic neuralgia (pain after the rash is gone).
Chickenpox virus can remain dormant for decades, and does so inside the ganglion near the spinal cord. As the virus is reactivated it spreads down peripheral nerve fibers and produces intense pain. The blisters therefore only affect one area of the body and do not cross the midline. They are most common on the torso, but can also appear on the face (where they are potentially hazardous to vision) or other parts of the body.
Outbreaks occur for many different reasons, most of which are a result of events which decrease the immune system such as aging, severe emotional stress, severe illness or long-term use of corticosteroids.

Week One - Day Two
I'm up again at 5:45am, eat my cereal with 1/2 a banana and 1% milk. Off to the gym to workout on the elliptical trainer. 30 mins on hills, level 5. After that, I did a little bit more on the bike to cool down. I should do some weight training, but I'm not really sure what to do...
I signed up for the Self Fitness Challenge and I can use it to log my workouts and meals. I sent an invite to my friends, I hope they will join me! All in all, I'm feeling pretty good.

Week One - Day One
Ok, so I'll use my blog to publish my workouts and a way to keep me motivated :) 5:30am and I'm up, ready to workout. Usual bowl of cereal with 1/2 banana and 1% milk. I usually drink 2% and I'm trying 1% out. I'll inch my way to skim and fat free soon. 6:30am and I'm at the gym and on the elliptical trainer w/ the moving handles. 30 minutes, level 5 and on the Hill program. 275 calories, yah! After that, I stretched a little and then walked on the treadmill for 10 minutes and did some more stretches after that. Just now at work, I ate a rice cake w/ a thin slice of rosemary ham. For lunch, I have brown rice and a chicken stirfry. I feel pretty good! Hope to keep it up.
Getting Started Program at ProClub
I was at a lost on what I should be doing when I'm at the gym, so I approached the front desk at ProClub and asked questions. The lady there recommended that I try the Getting Started Program which is a complimentary session with a personal trainer. I have the option of having them walk me through all the machines there or, do some tests. I opted for the tests. First, Dave took my blood pressure and resting heart rate. I think it was 102/64 and 58? Then we measured my height and weight. After that, we did the body fat test. I was all ready for the pinch test, but it was more high tech. It was a machine that had electrodes on your ankle and your hand. Then we sat down and discussed my goals. After our discussion, he said that I can achieve my goal in 6 weeks by working out 30-60 mins of cardio, 3-5 times a week, which would be a 1lb a week that I will lose. At least now I have an idea of where I'm heading with my workouts! I think I'll try it out on my own before I sign up for the personal trainer package.

Cameron - 33 months old update
Big brother Cameron is 33 months old at the end of this month. He still loves his trucks! You name it, construction trucks, garbage trucks, fire trucks, hummer trucks, delivery trucks.....the list goes on. Cameron transitioned into Homebase F at Bright Horizons (Kirkland) in mid January 2007 and hasn't looked back to his old class - Homebase D. His old teacher, Jennifer certainly misses him! His buddy in the class is Kristian Bridge. Cameron's vocabulary is so big now, that I'll fill the entire page and more. Favorite phrases? What happened to...? Plus he will be asking the question WHY? alot. Whenever we get into the car, he will also ask for SkippyJon Jones in Mummy Trouble - Disk 6 :) He asks that so many times, that the words are slurred together. Favorite foods? Rice balls, mini egg tarts and pumpkin tarts, soy milk and pretzel fish. Favorite activities? Reading books, playing with his trucks, soccer and lately it's been going to Bellevue Square Mall to play at the Lego store. Cameron is getting heavy! 35lbs or so...pretty soon we won't be able to carry our little boy!
Kyle - 14 months old update
Kyle turned 14 months old on February 10, 2007. In this month, Kyle is still drooling alot!! but he still only has his 4 little teeth :) I don't remember us using the bib that much with Cameron when he was a baby. Kyle starting crawling when he was 10 months old and we always thought that he would walk before he was 1 years old. This month and especially in the past week, he's been making alot of progress. Perhaps 10-15 steps now. His vocabulary consists of: cat, car, baby food (bebeee), bus (ba), milk (nai-nai), panda (da), big brother (goh goh). For some reason he still keeps on calling me ba ba, which is father in Cantonese! He loves to go out (gai gai) and copy his big brother. Our little Kyle is growing up!

The All New CRAVE
Driving along NE 85th a week ago, I saw a billboard that said "The all new CRAVE" and a pic of a car. What was it? I didn't recognize the car and the marketing line didn't click for me. A block down, the Honda dealership was there and I saw a new car drive out onto the street. I didn't recognize the car. It looked like a mini-van, but it was the Od. It really caught my attention, so when I was at home, I looked up the Honda website. Was it a new car? Nope. Mmm...mini version of the Od? Nope. Mmm..then I saw the words CRV. Hmm...yep! There it was! Take away the vowels and you get CRV! That's pretty cool :) Do YOU crave it? :)

Brownies
I had a Double Belgian Triple Chocolate Truffle Cake at Sequoia Grill in Stanley Park over the Labour Day long weekend. Well...it was actually Scott who ordered it :) It was so good! It starts with a thin layer of chocolate cake, followed by a layer of dark chocolate mousse, a layer of white chocolate mouse and then a thin layer of ganache. They decorated it with a South African gooseberry which was tart in flavour. Ever since that evening, I've been having cravings. I picked up a chocolate mousse cake at Trader Joes for $6.99 and that didn't do anything for me at all. Ugh. Nothing. Today, I went to Whole Foods to see if they had anything similiar. I ended up buying a tray of their in-store baked brownies. I was going to buy a slice, but I'll share it with Scott. Too bad I can't IM some pieces to my friends! Bye bye brownies. See you again tonight with a tall glass of ice cold milk!!
